Go home – JVP tells Govt.

Thousands of placards carrying JVP supporters thronged the streets of Colombo yesterday demanding the government to resign if it can’t bring down the escalating cost of living and rampant corruption (Pic by Ishara S. Kodikara)

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), one time close ally of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa led government, yesterday virtually showed the door to the government demanding it to ‘go home’ if it cannot bring solace to the masses.

Speaking to a massive sea of heads, at Colombo’s Lipton Circus, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva declared that the government has failed to keep up to its mandate given to the masses before coming into power. “If you can’t reduce the sky rocketing cost of living and put and end to the rampant corruption, then go home,” Silva told the government.

Silva also emphasised that the solution to the ongoing problem cannot be solved by bringing the United National Party to power. “The need of the moment is a new government, a national front which is also patriotic and will safeguard the nation and also bring down the cost of living and an end the rampant corruption.”

The Leader of the JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe said, “The JVP has an alternative plan which the government hasn’t. We brought this government in to power, at a crucial time when there was a lot of plotting involved, however today; they have completely ignored what the JVP is saying and is acting in away that will only harm the citizens.”
JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa said that the government was resorting to an erroneous economic principal and an alternative plan should be presented soon or else the country will face doom very soon.
The rally kicked off from Campbell Park at around 3 p.m. and concluded at the Lipton Circle.
