Gateways for Broadband Multi Services Delivery Platform - By
Priyanka Undugodage |
Broadband
is not all about high bandwidth, but also on delivering multi services
for multi media applications on multiple devices connected to the
Broadband network. High speed access to Internet is just only one
of the applications and making a voice call over the phone is also
just another application and irrespective of the Broadband network
is based wire line or wireless it delivers multiple services.
The device that integrates and manages the delivery of multi services
over the Broadband to multiple devices is called Residential Gateway.
The devices that are connected to different services over the Broadband
network will have Broadband mobility connecting them seamlessly
in to the same set of user centric service platform over an IP (Internet
Protocol) converged network enabling fixed mobile convergence. The
presentation will cover many interesting features in a Residential
Gateway that will eliminate the need for variety of electronic devices,
each of which may now support and enable different types of services
or entertainment. Also the challenges for service providers to deliver
multi services with end to end with QoS (Quality of Service) controls
and multi service integration and security management will be addressed.
Broadband Services on International Connectivity - By Gayani Gunasekera
The future of Broadband communications is entangle with many ideas,

All areas above need seamless connectivity internationally. This
connectivity is via the under sea optical fiber cables laid by many
consortiums and individuals. Sri Lanka is connected on under sea
cables and cable systems to many countries.
Sri Lanka Telecom is the cable landing station owner and currently
there are two existing cable landing stations.
These landing stations and the backhaul connections are according
to the state of the art technology. Sri Lanka can be considered
as a hub of communication services and Sri Lanka Telecom is playing
a vital role in making this true. Some of the steps already taken
as follows,
- State
of the Art Data centre for global hosting applications.
- Consortium
partner of many cable systems
-
Private cables lay to near by countries
-
