SLT Broadband Quick Facts

Broadband connection is one that allows for high speeds, and supports data, voice, and even video information. It is considered broad because multiple kinds of information can travel across the wire, or band. High speed (or data rate) means that in addition to surfing the web without annoying delays, you will also be able to enjoy multimedia-rich applications such as streaming audio and videoconferencing. Broadband connections are typically always-on , so you don’t have to waste time dialing in to a service provider- as soon as the computer connected to the service is turned on, you can start surfing! What is remarkable is its simplicity. It uses regular copper wires with special devices at both the switch box end at the customer’s end transforming a regular copper cable into a high bandwidth Internet solution.

What is ADSL?
ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. This technology allows you to take advantage of the unused bandwidth that already exists on your phone line. Regular telephone service uses less than one percent of the capacity of the telephone lines, leaving the remaining 99 percent of the line for high speed data use.
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data that can be transmitted over a given time period.

Essentially, the more bandwidth, the faster information can be delivered to your computer.

The upstream (from your computer to the Internet) and the downstream (from the Internet to your computer) speeds are different hence the term ‘asymmetric.’ Your downstream rate of information transfer is always faster than your upstream; Speeds offered by SLT are 2 Mbit/s download and 512 Kbit/s upload, or 512 Kbit/s download and 128 Kbit/s upload with dynamic IP.

ADSL is perfect for receiving multimedia, audio, video and animation files in real time. ADSL technology gives users fast digital data transmission and does not affect the analog telephone service that we currently use. That means that you can enjoy a fast, permanent connection to the Internet, and still have full use of your telephone. What is unique about ADSL is that you hook into the existing telephone service and get information at lightning speeds.

ADSL Benefits Feature Benefits Un-metered Internet access

There are no usage charges, so you can budget effectively
Use the line simultaneously for Internet and Voice calls A second telephone line has typically been needed by business users with a dial-up connection, because they want to talk on the phone while using the Internet. Broadband saves you money on multiple line rental because you can still use the phone line to make calls, even when you are connected to the Internet.
