Mobitel globally roams with innovation

International roaming reaches greater heights with first of its kind value added services Travelling Connect Loyalty Programme and Roaming Voice Notification for Lankans

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel – The National Mobile Service Provider – is proud to introduce a loyalty programme for their In-bound International Roaming base, in collaboration with Travelling Connect; the leading global provider of loyalty management services to the telecommunication industry.A first in Sri Lanka’s telecommunication industry, this loyalty programme will enable Mobitel’s In-bound Roamers to earn miles while on roaming in Sri Lanka. Roamers just have to visit the Travelling Connect website for registration, upon which they can start earning miles right away while travelling. Upon registration, the In-bound Roamers simply have to manually switch their phone on to the Mobitel network and thereafter the earning of points begins.

Mobitel Roaming; ‘Your Wisest Choice for Roaming’ recognises that travelling is an integral part of life. Whichever country that one maybe in, Mobitel takes it upon itself to make it easier for subscribers to stay in touch with their loved ones or business partners. With more than 300 roaming partners and over 175 destinations worldwide, roamers on Mobitel are sure to enjoy the best overseas coverage wherever they may go. Mobitel now connects with 45 countries on prepaid roaming and 65 countries going live on GPRS. Further, Mobitel is constantly adding more countries and networks for international roamers to enjoy wider coverage, with the newest being China.Mobitel also introduces Roaming Voice Notification, which is another first in Sri Lanka, with an aim to enhance the services provided for Outbound Roamers. This enables callers to identify whether the individual they are trying to reach is on International Roaming.

A simple voice recording informs the caller that the person they are trying to reach is currently on international roaming, and to hold on if they wish to follow through with the call. For the SMS roamer, the recorded message is further customised to inform callers to their number that the person they are trying reach can be contacted only via SMS.

This provides callers with the ability to avoid further hassle associated with contacting the intended roaming party.

Mobitel is on a mission to continuously improve the service provided to international roamers by giving them greater benefits that enable them to make the most of their mobile phones even whilst travelling the world, bringing the world closer to them.
Travelling Connect is the leading global provider of loyalty management services to the telecommunication industry. The services of Travelling Connect help mobile operators to improve their international-roaming business. Travelling Connect achieves end-user loyalty to the networks of its clients by closing partnerships with (international) customer loyalty programmes enabling Travelling Connect to designate frequent-traveller miles or points to an ever increasing audience of international travellers world-wide (currently well over 30 million business travellers).

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel – The National Mobile Service Provider – is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its fully–fledged GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual bands. Investments committed to date in its 3G and GSM services offer totals over US$200 million and is set to increase its present 600 base stations to 1500 base stations by the end of this year.
