Orange Electric wins Silver for industrial exports

Orange Electric, last week, won the coveted Silver Award for Excellence in Industrial Exports at the annual competition organized by the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE).


Sri Lankan brand leader Orange Electric has stunned the world. The world market had not anticipated Sri Lanka to be a world class electrical switch manufacturing destination. Global players were surprised that Sri Lanka could design, produce, compete and export engineering products to the world. Today, Sri Lankan made Orange Electric switches and sockets proudly stand out on shop shelves of many countries and are in high demand. 


The Company said that in recognition of this achievement, the NCE presented the Silver Award in the XL Industrial Export category to Orange Electric this year. A newcomer to exports, Orange Electric was placed ahead of veteran industrial exporters such as Royal Fernwood, Lanka Tiles, Ceylon Leather Products and D. Samson Industries in the XL Industrial Exporters category.

The high quality standard maintained by the company, has been an advantage to compete in the global market.
Orange Electric conforms to British, Singaporean, Malaysian and Indian Standards. Their world class state-of-the-art factories are located in Maharagama, Boralesgamuwa, and Meegoda in the Western Province. Orange Electric has a history of producing high quality electrical switches and sockets for the past 20 years in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest at the awards ceremony High Commissioner for Pakistan, Rtd. Air Vice Marshal Shahzad Chaudhry, in his address, said that Orange Electric was one of two Sri Lankan companies who have successfully entered the growing Pakistani Market of 150 million people. The current FTA with Pakistan, has given the company more competitiveness in exports and they look forward to a similar FTA with Bangladesh. The company currently exports electrical switches and sockets to Australia, Europe, Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Cyprus, Ghana, and Nigeria, totaling approximately Rs.70 million (US$ 700,000) a month. In 2007, the company plans to achieve US$ 5 million in exports, increasing it to US$ 12 million by end 2008.


Over the past three years, Orange Electric has helped the government and the people of Sri Lanka save over Rs.1 billion by  locally manufacturing switches and sockets and providing direct employment to over 700 skilled and semi skilled Sri Lankans.  This pioneering effort of exporting Engineering products  by a truly Sri Lankan entrepreneur family from Matara has given pride to all Sri Lankans and the NCE has done well recognize and reward the company.
