Ceylon Tobacco gets first Asian CEO

British American Tobacco subsidiary the Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) has seen the appointment of an Asian for the first time as the Chief Executive Officer.

The Company announced last week that Mustanser Ali Khan, a Pakistani national, was appointed as Managing Director/CEO.

He takes over from Andrew O’Regan (MD/CEO since 2005), who has been appointed Managing Director of British American Tobacco Vietnam.
Mustanser comes with a diverse international career with British American Tobacco. He held the role of General Manager Solomon Islands Tobacco prior to joining CTC. Previously, he has worked as Operations Director with British American Tobacco Indonesia and Supply Chain Project Manager for British American Tobacco Asia Pacific based at KL Malaysia.
Mustanser started his professional career with Pakistan Refinery Ltd. in 1989 as a Trainee Engineer. He then joined Pakistan Tobacco Company (a subsidiary of British American Tobacco) in 1990 and thereafter worked in various senior positions such as Brand Manager, Innovations Manager, Trade Marketing & Distribution Manager, Change Management Manager, Factory Manager, Production Manager and Factory Engineer for 12 years before embarking on international moves during the last 5 years.
Mustanser’s appointment compliments the Leadership Team and Board of Directors at CTC as the company gears ahead as the only legal player in the Sri Lankan cigarette industry.

Commenting on the appointment, CTC Chairman Deshamanya Ken Balendra said “I am delighted to welcome Mustanser to our Board.  He has outstanding international experience and I look forward to the contribution he will undoubtedly make. I would like to thank Andrew for the tremendous contribution he has made to the Company as Chief Executive Officer since April 2005 and wish him all the best as he moves to Vietnam.”

The Board of Directors of CTC now consists of: Deshamanya Ken Balendra (Chairman) Mustanser Ali Khan (Managing Director/CEO), Sandeep de Alwis (Finance Director) Jayampathi Bandaranayake (Non Executive Director) Vijaya Malalasekera (Non Executive Director), Chandra Jayaratne (Non Executive Director), Deshamanya Deva Rodrigo (Non Executive Director), Susantha Ratnayake (Non Executive Director) and William Toh Ah Wah (Non Executive Director).
