It
is no coincidence. The popular Sri Lanka-England battle is confined
to cricket these days but recently Bauddhaloka Mawatha played
host to a different battle recreating history to depict the
historic Matale uprising of 1848 against British rule. The special
event was organised to promote and reward the telecast of ‘Mahathala
Hatana’ a 40-episode teledrama, which brings to life historic
characters such as Weera Puran Appu, Gongalegoda Banda, and
Dingi Rala, who were prominent rebels against colonial rule.
