ECU’s MBA program from ACBT emerges as the Corporate Class of Sri Lanka

An exceptionally high turn-out of seasoned corporates has prompted the Australian College of Business and Technology (ACBT) to classify its international MBA program with Edith Cowan University (ECU) of Australia, as the ‘Corporate Class of Sri Lanka.’

The Master of Business Administration (International), is designed for graduates from a variety of disciplines who wish to build a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of business operations and environments, and equips them with the conceptual and analytical abilities needed for decision making at the highest level. The program is strongly linked with the business community and is designed around the real needs of a highly technological and fast changing business world, and is the option for graduates working in the corporate sector.

The innumerous individuals who are studying for their MBA all hail from highly placed positions in the corporate sector from a very wide range of professions, including Banking ,IT, Aviation, Finance, Marketing, HR, Engineering and many more, with a quarter of them absorbed from banking. Presently hundreds are following the program with a small composition of international students too.

A walk around the ACBT campus on Galle Road, leaves no doubt in one’s mind, about what makes the college so sought-after. It’s not just the internationally acclaimed study programs. In a nutshell, it is what one might call a well-equipped institution with a stimulating environment, but one may be easily forgiven for going into raptures when describing the campus in detail; it is a students haven, with air-conditioned classrooms equipped with mounted projectors, hi-fi in selected areas, a special student lounge, food court, excellent library and laboratory facilities, and access to ECU’s on-line library. The cherry on the top! The ‘Aussie Café’ on the rooftop with a sea view, open from 8am to 8 pm.

The coveted MBA’s entrance requirements are a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or a minimum of 5 years’ executive level work experience with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity. The program is flexible, and offers its scholars the option of fast-tracking it in 16 months, or in 2 years (if studying 2 subjects per semester) or pursuing it module-by-module for a maximum of three and a half years, with possibilities in-between too. ACBT offers the same program offered by ECU, with the degree awarded by ECU itself, making it the most recognized international degree conducted fully in Sri Lanka with the award from Australia. The MBA students are also assured of the opportunity to go direct to ECU and continue their program there at anytime they wish.

The Edith Cowan University is a responsive and forward-thinking institution that provides well-designed academic programs in course and research, and is noted for innovation in course content, research, creative pursuits and its contribution to the community - both the government and corporate sector. In the 2006 Australian Good Universities Guide to MBA and Executive Short Courses, the ECU Business Faculty was awarded a 5-star rating in the category of Academic Qualifications for its MBA program, and a 4 star rating from the Graduate Management Association.

The units are taught using interactive learning techniques, drawing on the diverse backgrounds of the students and the expertise and experience of the lecturer. Therefore, the students must have some practical work experience to contribute and benefit from this type of learning environment. The acclaimed MBA programme provides the perfect opportunity for professionals to acquire the desired credentials that mark their status at the top. ECU graduates take on the world with skills relevant to all industries. ECU graduates at ACBT are valued for their: ability to work in teams. Critical appraisal skills (planning, organizing problem solving and decision making skills), ability to generate ideas (having the courage and confidence to be creative and innovative) and cross –cultural and international outlook.
