Lanka weakest in tackling oil shock

Sri Lanka has been ranked among Asia’s five weakest countries that could tackle the shock of soaring oil prices.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in a special report released last week listed Sri Lanka along with Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Maldives among those vulnerable for oil shock. This was due to their relatively weak economic capacity to absorb oil price shocks and due to high dependence on imported oil.
