Audit Examiners Service Union plans trade union
action
By Vindya Amaranayake
The Audit Examiners Service Union is planning trade union
action next week demanding authorities to even out the salary anomalies
created by Circular No.6/2006.
We will stage another protest next Wednesday (28). We have
already notified the relevant parties including the President and
the Salaries Commissioner, Union Secretary B. Jagoda stated.
During the last protest conducted by the Union, the Salaries Commission
had assured that the matter would be sorted out within three weeks.
It has been more than three weeks now and so far nothing has
happened. Although it was a written assurance, it seems to be restricted
only to paper, Jagoda charged.
He added that the Union did not wish to engage in trade union action
over the past few weeks since the government was battling terrorism
up north. We did not want to distress the government at a
time when there were other security related matters demanding more
attention. That was the main reason why we refrained from protesting,
he asserted.
Jagoda explained that they would definitely conduct the protest
next week as they have given enough time for the government to honour
the promise.
He explained that the anomalies have arisen due to Circular No.6/2006,
which was put forward by the Salaries Commission as a solution to
the then existing salary issues. Yet, instead of presenting a solution
it had further complicated the matter.
Those who were affected by this circular will take part in the protest
on Wednesday.
