Manohari appointed to Monetary Board


Mrs. Manohari Ramanathan, Attorney at Law and Justice of the Peace has been appointed as a Member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka with effect from 6 December 2007.


Mrs. Ramanathan had a distinguished career in the Legal Draftsman’s Department from which she retired as Senior Deputy Legal Draftsman in July 2006. She commenced her career in the Legal Draftsman’s Department in 1978 as an Assistant Legal Draftsman.

She was promoted to the post of Senior Legal Draftsman and subsequently to the post of Deputy Legal Draftsman in 2000. She has been extensively involved in drafting major legislation in Sri Lanka, having received specialized training in legislative drafting. She has also worked in the Indian Parliament in New Delhi and in the Law Drafting Division of the Department of Justice in Hong Kong.


Mrs. Ramanathan was enrolled as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of Ceylon in July 1973. She has read for her post-graduate studies in Legislative Drafting at the University of West Indies in Barbados.

She was nominated by the Government of Sri Lanka for studies in the United States of America in 1985, in human rights. Prior to joining the Legal Draftsman’s Department she appeared in both original and Appellate courts. She has published scholarly articles in journals both in Sri Lanka and abroad. She was President of the Past Pupils’ Association of Holy Family CAonvent, Colombo 4 in 1986/87.


She is the widow of the late Deshamanya P Ramanathan, former Justice of the Supreme Court and Governor of the Western Province.
