Sri Lankan teledrama project launched in Boston, USA

A group of Sri Lankans in Boston, Massachusetts, who came together to start a Sinhala teledrama project a few years ago, began filming their 30 episode teledrama titled ‘Bindunu Bami’ (Broken Bonds) recently.


The teledrama “Bindunu Bami (Broken Bonds) is a story based on a Sri Lankan doctor who migrates with his family in the 1980s to the USA. The story revolves around their struggle and their life journey as first generation immigrants in the USA. The script for ‘Bindunu Bami’ is written by Upul Bandarage and directed by Chitral de Mel.


The Muhurath ceremony for the teledrama was held in November in Boston. The filming commenced thereafter in Harvard Square, the commercial center for the well-known Harvard University.


Award winning actor, Sriyantha Mendis will join the cast to play the lead role as the doctor in April 2008. The cast from Boston and New York includes Vyonni de Mel, Lakmini Jayasundara, Ranjan Samarakone, Kumari Dissanayake, Jayantha Bopearachchi, Sanjeewa Karunaratne, Dileni Bandarage, and many other talented Sri Lankan and American actors.


The production crew includes Ranjith Wijesinghe, Janaka Karunaratne, Janak Ambalangodage, Nalith Karunaratne, and Lucian Perera. The music for the teledrama is directed and recorded by Arjuna Balasuriya and Vanoji Balasuriya sings the theme song. Upul Jayasundara serves as the camera director in the production of the teledrama, while Ritani Rathnapala joins the team as the make-up artist. ‘Bindunu Bami’ is a production of Sri Lankan American Arts Foundation (SLAAF: http://www.srilankaarts.com).
