Nalin B. Karunaratne, Steering Committee Chairman, has over fifteen years experience in Sales and Marketing. He has held senior positions in multinationals in Sri Lanka and the Middle East. Nalin is Head of Sales at ICI Paints.

Paddy Weerasekera is a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, has an MBA from the University of Wales and is General Manager of 141 Integrated Communications in the Bates Asia network. He spearheaded the development of BTL services at the agency, and now oversees 141’s diversified services. Paddy serves in the Accredited Advertising Agencies Association and was a judge of the SLIM ad awards and also served in the Chillies 2006 committee.

The Committee has put in place safeguards to minimise, if not eliminate altogether, scam ads, which were a key concern of last year’s ‘The Chillies.’ Scam ads may be defined as being advertising developed solely to win at awards shows, with no legitimate client source or, if having a legitimate client, with no legitimate client need or rationale. “We are very aware of the fact that scam was a major concern of Chillies 2007, and are putting in stringent controls to make it much more difficult to submit scam work,” assures Nalin Karunaratne.

The Chillies 2008 Sri Lanka Advertising Awards, is a joint industry initiative of the International Advertising Association (IAA) with the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (the 4A’s), and the collaborative counsel of Sri Lanka’s marketing and media fraternities.
