Record net foreign inflow in 2007

The Colombo Stock Exchange said last week the year 2007 saw the highest ever net foreign inflow of Rs. 11.2 billion.

The previous highest was Rs. 6.2 billion recorded in 2005.

In 2007, total purchases made by foreign investors amounted to Rs. 46.8 billion while the total sales were Rs. 35.5 billion. A majority of investments were made in the diversified, Telecom and Banks, finance and insurance sectors.

CSE said foreign participation accounted for 39% of the total turnover in 2007 while in 2006 it was 32% and 21% in 2005.

The year 2007 also saw the highest ever fresh equity worth Rs. 49 billion raised.

These positive achievements however failed to boost the Colombo stock market in 2007, which suffered its first negative growth in seven years.
