Massacre at Mt. Lavinia

S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia registered their fourth win of the season over a weak Nugawela Central outfit by an innings and 225 runs on their home ground yesterday. Nugawela Central put in to bat first, on a bowler friendly pitch, was bundled out for a hapless 35, probably the lowest total registered by a side in an innings for the entire season. Thomian bowlers Dinesh Walpita (4/16), Milan Fernando (3/02) and Ruchira de Silva (2/16) came up with excellent performances by picking up wickets at regular intervals. In reply S. Thomas’ piled up a huge 339 for 4 at the end of day one with Fahim Saleem on 151 not out and Thilina Nugawela on 103 not out. Resuming play on the second day the Thomians declared at 375 for 8 with both of their century makers retiring. Batting in their second essay, the Nugawela batsmen did better to surpass the hundred run mark to reach 115 as the hosts celebrated the season’s second outright win.
