Chartered Bank CEO and staff make year end visit to reinforce their
commitment to support fight against cancer
Standard
Chartered Bank has for the 14th consecutive year continued support
to the hospital in particular the maintenance and upkeep
of the Mens wards 3 and 4. In 2004, the wards were fully refurbished
and toilet facilities upgraded. Amongst the many refurbishments
that were carried out by the bank, were notably the installation
of two reception desks that now allow nurses and doctors to consult
with patients in a more orderly fashion. A designated dining area;
separate from the ward was also cordoned off and set up by Bank
staff, allowing patients to dine in comfort or even entertain friends
and family. A separate section was also established for medicine
mixing purposes thus improving safe medical conditions for all -
nursing staff, patients and visitors.
The staff and patients of the cancer hospital greeted the Standard
Chartered Bank CEO, Clive Haswell and his staff as they visited
each patient with special gift packs and took time to find out more
about each of them and their needs.
The bank has had a long relationship with the Maharagama Cancer
Hospital and we are keen to continue to do all we can to support
whatever needs the hospital has, said Clive Haswell, CEO,
This is an important opportunity for us to think about others
during a season and time when we tend to get caught up in making
our own arrangements. I am proud of my staff and their personal
commitment to seeing to the needs of this hospital and its patients.
The National Cancer Institute in Maharagama is the only hospital
in Sri Lanka totally dedicated to cancer care and provides medical,
surgical, gynaecological and paediatric services to cancer patients
of all walks of life.
A much needed blood drive was scheduled for January 17, at the Standard
Chartered Bank Head Office in Fort where staff and customer were
asked to donate blood to the Blood Collection Unit of the Cancer
Hospital. The Blood Bank in the Institute bears the responsibility
of providing adequate and safe blood products to the cancer patients
who require this service.
