Government security forces strike big

Security Forces yesterday captured Viyattankulam area in Mannar, a strategically important position of the LTTE.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told The Bottom Line that LTTE had suffered 10 casualties and also saw 10 bunkers being destroyed, in the Viyattankulam incident.

He added that 12 LTTE cadres had died and the Tiger rebels had lost control of six bunkers to the government security forces in Pallekuli area in Mannar, in another operation.

Brigadier Nanayakkara added, “The captures are a big achievement for the army.” According to the military spokesman, the army has captured a village very close to Adampan where the LTTE stored most of its heavy weapons.

So far, the security forces have captured Oylankulam, Pallekuli, Parappakandal, Vilayathikulam, Periyathampane in Mannar along the Vavunya –Mannar road.

Meanwhile, two forest officers of the Wasgamuwa National Park were found hacked to death yesterday afternoon.

The mutilated bodies were recovered in a bungalow at Wasgamuwa Natural Reserve.

Police teams from Wilgamuwa and Laggala have been dispatched to carry out further investigations.

Brigadier Nanayakkara said that the two persons believed to be the keeper and an officer attached to the Wildlife Conservation Department were killed on Monday night.
