Indian author gives police the jitters

By Dharisha Bastians
Renowned Calcutta-born author of Equal Music and Suitable Boy Vikram Seth was allegedly harassed by Galle Police on Monday (21), a day after the Galle Literary Festival was concluded.

Seth, who was one of the main highlights of ‘GLF’ as the festival has come to be known, was reportedly sketching at the Galle Fort when police demanded to know who he was and vigorously investigated him. According to sources, Seth had managed with some difficulty to telephone some organisers of the festival who had arrived to explain matters to the police officials.

New security measures in the Galle Fort area prevents visitors from taking photographs on the ramparts of the fort and the Seth’s sketching had aroused the suspicion of the police officers, The Bottom Line learns
