WFP wants story on biscuits rectified

By Aisha Edris
An infuriated World Food Programme (WFP) office in Colombo has demanded that the Nation Building Minister rectifies reports which stated that a consignment of high protein biscuits from its organisation had been dispatched to Vavuniya, early last week. The reports added that the consignment was later apprehended by police.

According to Deputy Country Director WFP Jean Yves the organisation had sent a letter to the Ministry of Nation Building demanding the story be corrected. The WFP states that the news was initially provided to the media by the Media Centre for National Security.

“We do not import or distribute high protein biscuit to any of the civilians. Misinformation has been given to the media by the military. We work closely with the government and inform them of all our moves,” he told The Bottom Line.

He also expressed shock over the baseless allegation made against his organisation.

On Sunday the Military took into custody a truck transporting 39, 000 packets of high protein - PB 100 Compact Therapeutical Food, at the Medawachchiya road block.
