SLT and Mobitel showcase digital Lifestyle at EDEX 2008 exhibition

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) revolutionised EDEX 2008, with its groundbreaking stall featuring the crème of today’s broadband technology, offering visitors a real experience in truly digital lifestyle.

As the theme attraction sponsor for EDEX 2008, SLT brought technology alive at the BMICH Colombo.

The SLT stall was located at the entrance to the exhibition and was designed vibrantly with a youthful theme and was an instant crowd puller.  The stall offered visitors a wealth of information on the latest and most sophisticated technology available on the market today, while providing unlimited infotainment, giving them a total technology experience.

The stall featured the use of uploading photos/videos/music files, photo/music/video sharing, creative writing and blogging, video blogging, net radio, social utility networks such as Facebook and chatting mechanisms such as SLTnet Messenger, Google Chat, iChat and MSN Messenger.  It also featured Mobitel 3.5G and the use of mobile telephony on a GSM network, broadband services, as well as wireless fidelity (WIFI).  Working with blogs; visitors could write, compose poems, upload videos onto social networks like YouTube, create digital art, make their own music or relax while listening to radio channels from around the world.  They could also watch IPTV or visit the

Mobitel corner for a one of a kind experience - the first 3.5G HSPA technology in south Asia.

P N E Abayasekara, Chief Corporate Officer of SLT said, “SLT always values the country’s youth which is an asset to our country.  In fact, SLT takes education as one of the major aspects of our corporate social responsibility programmes.  We are proud to be the theme attraction sponsor of this exhibition, which will provide school leavers, undergraduates and all the other visitors a valuable insight into the latest technologies available on the market and provide them an opportunity to use these technologies themselves, giving them a competitive edge.”

“In our endeavour to connect the Sri Lankan youth with choices, options and opportunities in post secondary education, skills development, vocational and technical training leading to gainful employment, through EDEX being the single largest platform, the novel theme attraction showcasing the facets of emerging futuristic digitized lifestyle sponsored by SLT will be a boon to Sri Lankan youth enabling them to attune their mindsets to limitless new possibilities,” said Kamal Abeysinghe, Project Chairman, EDEX.

Being held for the fifth consecutive year, this event attracts over 75,000 visitors ranging from school leavers to university graduates from all parts of the country. SLT believes that EDEX will take the lead to fulfill the “Skills Gap” between the applicants and the

industry’s requirements whilst SLT will fulfill the “Information Gap” through world class technologies.  Being the theme attraction sponsor for EDEX 2008, SLT brought technology alive allowing visitors to experience the digital lifestyle.

With a vision ‘to empower the Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive’, EDEX for the past four years has worked towards providing a platform to bridge the gap between business organisations’ expectations and the availability of competent youth.  EDEX is acclaimed to be the most comprehensive and the largest education and career fair in the country.  It has managed to create new standards in the exhibitions arena with its novelty/value addition programmes such as seminars and workshops, on site job interviews, scholarship offers, greater coverage of relevant sectors representing both local and overseas participants and other special features, the pinnacle of which, are the twin EDEX exhibitions held in Colombo and Kandy in January each year.
