Swadeshi sponsors “Aloka Poojawa” at Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya for 9th consecutive year


The Swadeshi Industrial Works Ltd. was the sponsor of the “Aloka Poojawa” of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya which coincided with the annual Duruthu Perahera of the temple.

This is the ninth consecutive year that the company sponsored this event which commenced on the 18th January and concluded on the 22nd January.

Ms. Amari Wijewardene, Chairperson of Swadeshi commented that sponsoring the “Aloka Poojawa” of the sacred temple Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya demonstrates Swadeshi’s commitment to keeping the country’s heritage and traditional values alive. “Being a 100 percent Sri- Lankan company, at a time like this, we believe it is our duty to safe guard our country’s unique identity” she said.

The Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya was built as a monument to the third and final visit of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka. Built in the reign of King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe, this temple is a place of one of the four guardian gods of Sri Lanka – God Vibishana.

The company also sponsors the annual “Aloka Poojawas” in Kataragama Kiri Vehera Raja Maha Viharaya, Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Dewalaya, Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Dewalaya and Dambadeniya Raja Maha Viharaya.
