Dharmaraja
fights back

After being bowled out for a paltry 98 in the first innings,
Dharmaraja Kandy fought back to force a draw against S. Thomas
at Mt. Lavinia yesterday. Navid Ghany and Nilshan Fernando took
4 wickets each on the first day to take control of the match by
bowling the Rajans out for 98. S. Thomas went on to make 222
for 6. Fahim Saleem scored a valiant 90 supported by Jehan Thahir
who chipped in with a useful 80. The Thomians declared their first
innings at the overnight score and put the opposition in to bat
when play resumed on day two.
The Rajans held their nerve in the second essay with a stubborn
display of batting taking the whole of the second day to total 246
before being bowled out with four overs left for close of play.
Prathap de Silva made an unbeaten and steady 80 off 175 balls to
save his side from repeating their first innings collapse. Chamila
Ambagaspitiya (47) and Chandimal Ratnayake (46) supported de Silva
to make a commendable total of 246. Milan Fernando bowled effectively
to capture five wickets conceding 71 runs. Jehan Thahir came back
with good figures of 3 for 53. The match ended in a draw with the
Thomains unable to bat the remaining four overs due to poor light
conditions.
