GMOA to give Mahinda petition against Health Minister

By Kushali Atukorale
The Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) will hand over a petition against Minister of Health, Nimal Siripala De Silva to President Mahinda Rajapaksa about the minister’s alleged misconduct and unethical behaviour.

The secretary of GMAO, Dr Anurudha Padeniya told The Bottom Line that, a total of 14,000 island wide doctors will be signing the petition, against Minister De Silva, regarding his immature behaviour.

“Although he does not do any work towards the betterment of the health sector, he tries to get the credit by talking ‘lies’ nationally and internationally,” Padeniya alleged.

Dr. Padeniya cited that the petition will be handed over to the President, as soon as the doctors complete signing it, “how can we work with a Minister like him when he does not know the basics in health and only knows to promote corruption,” Padeniya added.

The petition comes amidst reports that world-renowned Neuro Surgeon Sunil Perera and five other well-known specialists including one from the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children are likely to leave Sri Lanka, due to alleged harassments, they have to endure, from Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
