Ranatunga
to chair ACC meeting
LAHORE: An important meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)
and its development committee will be held at Lahore on Thursday.
The
ACC president Ranatunga and secretary Ashraful Haq are coming to
Lahore for the meeting, which is likely to discuss the possibility
of holding the Asia Cup in Pakistan in June this year.
The
ACC will examine the ground realities with the PCB officials regarding
the security situation in Pakistan, which has led to the postponement
of the home series against Australia earlier this month.
There
are reports that Sri Lanka is the candidate for hosting the Asia
Cup, which was to be held in 2006, but had been delayed due to unsporting
attitude of India. Last time it was to be held in 2007 but India
had expressed its unavailability on the pretext of giving rest to
its national team due to hectic programme.
Meanwhile,
the ACC development committee to be chaired by PCB chairman Dr Nasim
Ashraf will also be held to finalise some development projects in
different part s of the subcontinent.
