61 Lankan teens for 2008 Future World Leaders Summit in US


This July, 61 promising Sri Lankan student leaders from 16 schools will travel to USA for the 2008 Future World Leaders Summit to be held at the prestigious Georgetown University in Washington. D.C.

During their 7-day stay in Washington. D. C. these aspiring young leaders will attend seminars inside the US House of Representatives (US Parliament), US Dept. of State, World Bank, Organisation of American States and the US Defence Academy. Participation in this unique week in Washington. D.C. gives Sri Lankan students a competitive advantage to obtain financial scholarships to most American Universities to complete their higher studies. For more information visit www.futureworldleader.org Since year 2000 Sri Lanka has been participating as a full country delegation and over 400 Sri Lankan students from 32 leading schools in the country have experienced this amazing week in the American capital.

The Sri Lankan delegates selected for the 2008 summit are; Helitha Fonseka, Vikum Rodrigo and Dylan John from St. Thomas’ College Mt Lavinia, Heshaya Senadhira and Joanna Milhuisen from Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya, Sarah Jameel and Sandaruwani De Silva from Bishop’s College Colombo, Yahren Tissera, Saad Altaf, Oxelina Fernando, Sanchita de Silva, Mizha Mizver, Nehla Milfer, Nivetha Naidu, Aadil Azeez, Sarah Turab, Devindhe Ratnayake, Abdulla Aslam, from Asian International School, Rochana Cooray from Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo, Anarkalee Perera, Savera Weerasinghe and Natasha Thanthirimudali from Ladies College Colombo, Natasha Castalino, Rishan Thambinayagam, Malinga Ratwatte, Janek Ambani, Lihini Wijeratne, Sehr Gunawardena, Udesh Habaraduwa, Andrew Speldewinde, Tashiya de Mel, Savini Tissera, Romesh Gajanayake, Isuri Nethmini, Genu Wickramaratne, Umayanga Nanayakkara, Anithra Ratnayake, Shamara Wettimuny, Shenali Dias, Sasha Jeyakumar, Hasitha Jayawardena, Javan Fernando, Amrith Nagendra, Dylan Perera, Siddharth Amalean, from Colombo International School, Duminda Attygalle, Praveen Siriwardena and Dinuk Kiriella from Royal College Colombo, Mithraka De Silva from Overseas Children School Battaramulla, Nishika Samaratunga, Oshan Weerasinghe and Dinushi Kariyawasam from Stafford International School, Nuwan Hemachandra from Gateway International Kandy, Guwanjith Tennakoon from British School in Colombo, Savindya Tissera and Samadhi Gunesekera from Musaeus College Colombo, Tehani Peiris from Good Shepherd Convent Kandy, Sajini Athukorale, Dileepa Perera and Chrystalin Casinader from Gateway International College Colombo and joining from Qatar is, Lankika Madugalla Seneviratne from Park House English School in Doha. The Delegation Manager accompanying the students to USA will be Rochelle Melder, Teacher from Asian International School.

This Summit held annually since 1996 at Georgetown University offers 500 student leaders from 45 countries the opportunity to interact with Washington insiders including Members of the Congress. These student leaders 16 to 19 years of age are nominated by their school principals and sponsored by their parents to participate in this summit.
