LTTE attacks Murunkan government hospital

The LTTE had launched an attack on the Murunkan government hospital in Mannar, around 6.30 a.m, yesterday, using 120 mm mortars.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara confirmed that no civilians were injured, although the mortar attack partially damaged a hospital building. According to Nanayakkara the LTTE had directed the mortar fire from the direction of an un-cleared area in Madhu.

Meanwhile, in another incident north of Puliyankulam in Mannar, eight LTTE cadres were killed when the security forces had attacked an LTTE bunker line.

The soldiers had confirmed that they completely destroyed the LTTE bunker line and had consolidated their position in the area. Reportedly, the LTTE telecommunications had confirmed that they had lost eight of its cadres while another nine were injured.

Media Centre for National Security announced that eight soldiers also sustained injuries during the attack.
