Bangladesh ce lebrates National Day

The Sri Lankan Air Force Band was in attendance at the Samudra Ballroom of the Taj Samudra Hotel, when the Bangladesh High Commissioner and Mrs. Shadat Hossain hosted a reception to celebrate the Thirty-Seventh Anniversary of Independence. This formal occasion where the dresses were; National, lounge or Uniform, brought together a large and distinguished gathering.

As a part of the formalities the Chief Guest for the evening Labour Relations and Man Power Minister Athauda Seneviratne, proposed a toast to Bangladesh and the leaders, and thereafter, the High Commissioner proposed a toast to Sri Lanka and the President. There was a glittering gathering, with many of the women present, bringing the event into a spectacle of style. Shahina, the High Commissioner’s wife wore a pale aquamarine green saree worked in white, but many of the others brought a cavalcade of colour among whom were Lolly Kundanmal, in salwar kameez, Shiromi Karunaratne in a boldly printed saree, while Amarani Jayaweera had her printed silk saree, worked in sequins on the design. Aruni Rajakarier had her saree in black and white streaked with colour. Printed and colourful was the choice of Nilusha Ranasinghe, while Dana Bussa from the American Embassy relied on the elegance of a neutral shade for her suit style dress. Black with a silver border and little motifs, was the sophisticated saree Bharathi Wijeratne wore, with white araliya flowers in her hair. An empire waisted kameez was the unusual top Sumita Radha wore, while Rameena’s saree was in a lovely shade of turquoise. Zanita Careem was in a black and white printed top, she teamed with black pants.

Action stations around the room were well patronized, as they served the food from Bangladesh, with Biriyani being a hot favourite.
