Kandy SC out to retain top status

Mariks from Kandy
Kings of the local club rugby Kandy Sports Club who have been dominating the game since 1990 are all out to retain their status as the top rugby team in the country according to skipper Sean Wijesinghe.

Kandy SC has been a major force in the club rugby scene during the last one and half decades. Their great rise in rugby was mainly due to the dedication of the players, the discipline they followed and the backing they got from their godfather Malik Samarawickrema and the committee.

The rugby lovers of Kandy, who have been giving their best for their home town club whenever they play hope that their favorite club will do well this time too. They are hoping that the new captain Wijesinghe will get the much needed team effort to keep the club flag flying high.

Wijesinghe, a product of Trinity College is one of the best third row forwards in the game and he is expected to lead the side from the front with players like Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, one of the best runners of the game, Pradeep Liyanage, Sri Lanka’s Sevens captain, Dushan Lewke, a fine loose forward, Imran Bastamin, a knowledgeable player, Radika Hettiarachchi, one of the most experienced back division players, Sameera Siva, a fine center, and Faisal Marija, a top notch playmaker. Eranda Weerakodi, Anuranga Walpola, Prasad Chaturanga, Saliya Kumara, Senaka Bandara, Dilip Selvan, Kishore Jehan, Jeewa Galgamuwa are some of the players who are certain to catch the eye.
