Media oppression

Worldwide journalists unite to protest against Lankan Govt.

Journalists from all over the world will hand over a petition to Sri Lankan missionaries abroad, on Thursday, requesting the Government of Sri Lanka, to stop media suppression.

According to Secretary, Sri Lanka Working Journalists’ Association, Poddala Jayantha, International Federation of Journalists had organised the international protest, requesting the government of Sri Lanka, to stop harassing journalists in the country.

“On April 10th , journalists from all over the world would handover a petition to Sri Lankan missionaries. We also decided to have a protest in this regard, but we decided to postpone it, due to Minister Jeyraj Fernandopulle’s funeral,” he said.

He further said that IFJ had organised the worldwide protest, against the government of Sri Lanka, “ IFJ has around 130 branches all over the world, and they hope to join hands with journalists, around the world,” he said.
