Place country above partisan politics- Archbishop Gomis

By Poornima Ravishan Wijemanne
Oswald Gomis, the Archbishop of Colombo, issuing a statement yesterday, condemned the killings at Weliweriya by a bomb blast, and expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the minister and others killed in the blast.

Further explaining, the Archbishop said that Sri Lankans were tired of the more-than-two-decades long bloodshed and that absence of unity among politicians in Sri Lanka is allowing the country to break down as it did when the Portuguese and British subjugated the country in 1550 and 1815.

In his statement the Archbishop also said that Sri Lanka today “lacked political maturity, statesmanship and patriotism to place the country above partisan politics”.
