Shazuliyya Tharikka conference from May 2-4


The Islamic conference of Shazuliyya Tharikka is scheduled to be held in Colombo, from May 2 to 4 at the Ummu Zaviyu, Messenger Street, Colombo.

It will see lectures delivered by several prominent speakers including Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Qatar, Dr. Deen Mohamed, a Sri Lanka scholar who is well versed in Arabic, English and Tamil. He also headed the Islamabad International Islamic University.

Other guest speakers at the convention will include Ashraf Yousuf Mahmoud Mohammed AI Zaky, from Egypt, who is a product of Al Azhar University, with an MA on comparative religion and Dr. Afsar Hussain an ex MC who is also a famous Moulavi in Madhurai, Tamil Nadu, India.

The organisers speaking on the forthcoming conference, pointed out that Tharikka strictly emphasizes people to adhere to the teachings of the Al Quran and Al Hadis to the letter. Hence, it is an ideal way to lead a spiritually perfect life doing good deeds with discipline.

Shazuliya saint, the 18th descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) belonged to the clan of Imam Hasan [Rali] and was born to Seyyid Abdulla [Rali] and Ummu Hafeela [Rali] known as Sadikul Jennah.

Shazuliya Tharikka was spread among the Tamil speaking people of Sri Lanka following the propagation of Moulana Sharif Seyeduna Sheih, Muhamadibunu Mysood lbnu Abdur Rahuman Mahrafiyil Basiuishshazuli [Rali].

The most popular sheik of the Shazuliya Tharikka, the greatest Khuthub and the publisher of a large number of books on spiritual knowledge popularly known as Tajul Arifin [crown of the spiritualists] Sulthanul Aashikeen [king of true lovers] Kuthwathul Muhakkikeen [leader of spiritualists] Khutubul Wujnd [Khuthub leader of the universe] Imamul Muwahhideen [leader of oneness] Rasul Aabideen [leader of devotees] and Badural Auliya [Leader of Saints].

He has the distinction of establishing the Basi Shazuliyya Tharikka in the Holy City of Makkah. Many leaders who gained knowledge of Tharikka from this great Moulana Sharif nearly 160 years ago took the leading role of propagating Tharikka to every nook and corner of Sri Lanka.

His Holiness, the late Ahubakkar Miskeen Shahib [Nuskiyee] of Kayal Pattanam and late Rev. Mohammed Sati, known as Emen Moulana, rendered yeoman service to propagate the Tharikka. But Moulana Assheh Muhammed Salih Bin Abdul Kadir [Kali] [Jittavi] fondly known as Periya Moulana is credited with successfully propagating the Tharikka to every nook and corner in Sri Lanka.

At present, there are approximately 20 Zaviya’s in the city of Colombo. There are also a large number of Zaviya’s in Kalutara, Panadura, Beruwela, Aluthgama [Dharga town] Galle, Matara, Dickwella, Hambantota Weligama, Batticaloa, Kattankudi, Valachchenai, Eravur, Kandy, Gampola, Warakapola, Kahatowita and Badulla.

‘Awwal Zaviyya’ located at Grandpass, Colombo, is the first Shazuliyya Tharikka Mosque that was built for the devotees.

The great leader, Yosuf Moulana from Saudi Arabia, who visited this Zaviya, began his mission of preaching and guidance to the people staying at this Zaviya. He sacrificed his whole life for the promotion of Tharikka. He passed away in Colombo and he is buried in the premises of this Zaviya. It is customary to stay in this Zaviya for a few days by Sheiks who visit Sri Lanka.

Ummu Zaviya is the mother of all Zaviya’s of Sri Lanka and the headquarters of the Shazuliya Murideens of Sri Lanka.

The Shazuliyya’s who visit Sri Lanka specially make it a point to stay a few days at this place and then move to the other parts of the country.

The Shazuliyya Tharikka plays a key role in spiritual thinking, giving pride of place to the leadership that possesses maturity in spiritual studies. The person who leads the field is Sheikh Sajjaja. He is a senior in the spiritual field.

The name of Sheik Muhammed Sali, popularly known as Periya Moulana, is permanently etched in the minds of everyone, as he made a worthy contribution for the rapid spread of Tharikka throughout Sri Lanka.
