Lux launches an innovative TV experience for young women

“Lux Ruwathi Uwaithi” talk show on Sunday nights on Swarnavahini

Unilever Sri Lanka’s leading beauty soap sets the stage for young women to speak their minds

How would you like it if for 60 minutes, your favorite stars and the most inspiring personalities of your country, could be your fashion gurus, gossip buddies, shopping partners or Agony Aunts?

Unilever Sri Lanka’s leading beauty soap brand, Lux, has launched the first ever talk show in Sri Lanka, “Lux Ruwathi Uwathi”, which began telecasting on Swarnavahini every Sunday from April 6 between 7.00 and 8.00 pm.

This landmark show is the first on Sri Lankan TV to adopt a talk show format. Created exclusively for women, Lux Ruwathi Uwathi, will be hosted by a young woman who is definitely making her mark in the entertainment industry - Charika Wanigasekera.

A young woman who radiates confidence and natural charisma, Charika’s approachable disposition and easy-going style of conversation is set to add to the invitingly informal atmosphere of the show. Talking enthusiastically about her new role Charika said “I am delighted with the opportunity to host this type of show – It’s one of a kind in Sri Lanka and by sponsoring this show Lux and Unilever are giving young women a much needed platform on which to express their views and live out their dreams”

The objective of the show is to encourage young women in Sri Lanka to openly delve into the issues and events that mould their lifestyles and drive their dreams and ambitions. Lux Ruwathi Uwathi will be a space through which young women around the country can connect with, and learn from each other.

Brand Manager for Lux at Unilever Sri Lanka, Wathsala Aluthgedara believes the show will quickly become “The voice of the trends, icons and frontiers of Sri Lanka’s increasingly important and influential population; Young Women! Lux, which has for over three quarters of a century been associated as the glamorous soap of beauty stars, will once again redefine the changing facets of young Sri Lankan women.”

The audience and special guests hosted on the show can exchange ideas, share experiences and opinions on issues from beauty, fashion, jewelry, wedding planning to life balance, financial independence and confidence building.

The show will also feature a makeover segment that will invite participants to have their looks transformed by connoisseurs in the beauty and fashion industries; Ramani Fernando and Michael Wijesooriya. Participants in this segment of the show stand the chance to be crowned the “Lux Ruwathi Uwathi” in an SMS-based competition that will call for votes from the general public.

Lux is one of Sri Lanka’s leading beauty soaps and has been in the market for over 75 years. Since its launch in 1931, Lux symbolized glamour, glitz and the celebration of beauty. It fulfils the inherent need of every woman to look and feel beautiful. Lux transformed your daily shower into a sensual experience regardless of your age and figure. It has evolved gradually from the beauty secret of celebrities like Malini Fonseka to the new generation of beauties - Sangeetha Weeraratne, Dilhani Ekanayake and Kanchana Mendis. Today it is a universal expression of feminine beauty, in step with the trends of time. ‘Play with beauty’ being the current philosophy of the brand, Lux invites women to set their spirits free of all restrictions. In keeping with this message, Lux has introduced a range of products with exotic ingredients to accessorize women’s skin – not just cleansing but beautifying it as well. It brings out the playful and seductive side of women. The boundaries of beauty are removed, making it an attitude that transcends all ages and lifestyles. As a modern woman of the world, you’re liberated by your Lux.
