Lankan footballers in quarters of AFC Challenge Cup

Sri Lanka Footballers create unique record in the AFC Challenge Cup championship held in Chinese Taipei by being unbeaten in the tournament. They have now qualified to play in India in the quarter-finals in July.

The Sri Lankan footballers who are in peak form under the guidance of the two Sri Lanka and Korean coaches are playing good quality football. In the opening game they scored a 5-1 win over Guam, and followed it up by beating Pakistan 7-1in a game where they dominated from the first whistle to the end. Then in the third and last game they drew 2-2 with Chinese Taipei.

Sri Lanka heads the table with 7 points after two wins and a draw in three games. They scored 14 goals with 4 against. Behind them is Pakistan with 6 points with a record of two wins and one loss and Chinese Taipei, third with 4 points with a win, a draw and a loss. Guam lost all three games.

Sri Lanka emerged leaders of Group A and qualifies for the quarter-finals.
