Dayawansa elected President SLIM


R M P Dayawansa, Regional Head, Greater Colombo Region of Hatton National Bank has been elected president of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing for the year 2008/9 uncontested, taking over from Sarath Fernando who completed a successful year.

Dayawansa is the twenty ninth President of the institute and follows the footsteps of the likes of Stanley Jayawardene, Lalith de Mel, Eardley Perera etc. who had been guiding lights of the institute in the past.

Holding an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, he is a Chartered Marketer of the Chartered institute of Marketing - (UK) and served the Council of Management of SLIM for several years. 

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL ) and in addition to being a marketer and a banker, Dayawansa is in the process of finalizing the research paper for the National Diploma in Human Resources Management at the Institute of Personal Management (IPM.)

He hails from Kuliyapitiya and is an old boy of Central College. Kuliyapitiya

He serves the banking fraternity in marketing aspects as a Senior Lecturer in Marketing Management, Service Quality and Relationship Management, at the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. He is also a Resource person in Financial Service Marketing and Service Quality at CIMA, SLIDA, HNB Training Centre, and Central Bank Staff Training College.

Dayawansa has contributed a lot as a trainer in improving  ‘Marketing Orientation’   among employees particularly in the Banking Sector over the past ten(10) years.

Helping Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to deliver more value to their clients and progress in their businesses by taking the concept of marketing into the provinces/villages under the “Gamata  Marketing” concept is one of his priorities.

“As a National Body of Marketers in Sri Lanka, SLIM., through various customised training   programmes intends  to contribute positively towards improving marketing orientation in the Private and Public Sector too and help organisations recognising the value that marketing could add to achieve business success” said Dayawansa, describing his plans for the year. SLIM   recently   linked up with Buckinghamshire New University - U.K    to offer a Top British MBA to young Executives at an affordable fee with a view to enhancing Managerial skills needed by today’s Sri Lankan Managers.  

SLIM was incorporated by Act No. 41 of 1980 of    the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and is a full member and the current President of the Asia Marketing Federation (AMF).
