Parliament till June 5; Basil says move was necessary to give

In a move that would trigger a fresh crisis, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa yesterday prorogued Parliament, and will resume
sittings on June 5.The prorogation was with effect from midnight

Opposition
up in arms to disarm Pillaiyan

The
main opposition United National Party (UNP) held a protest
opposite the Elections Secretariat at Rajagiriya yesterday
afternoon, demanding the government disarm the Pillaiyan
group before the May 10 polls. UNP MPs Ravi Karunanayake
and Tissa Attanayake were present at the protest, along
with SLFP Mahajana Wing leader Mangala Samaraweera
