Hot air over Lanka’s bid for UNHRC seat

Govt. confident of winning crucial vote today in New York, Opposition wary; Activists warn failure would be serious indictment on the country’s profile internationally

The crucial vote in New York today on the re-election of Sri Lanka to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), has emanated considerable hot air locally as well as globally over the merits and demerits as well as likely outcome.
Despite strong lobby against Sri Lanka being re-elected to the UNHRC, Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has expressed hope that Sri Lanka might stand a chance.

Eagle revenue growth soars by 18% in Q1

The total gross written premium income grew by 14% to Rs.1, 516 million compared to the previous year. Life and general insurance premiums recorded a growth of 8% and 27% respectively with Rs. 948 million and Rs.568 million.
