Chamber launches eCommerce gateway to global trade
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce last week launched Trade Point
Sri Lanka, as a gateway to global trade and business contacts
to promote and facilitate international trade in Sri Lanka.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was granted operational status
as a fully operational trade point administrative centre and
was given rights to operate as a member of the World Trade
Point Federation (WTPF) in December 2007.
The World Trade Point Federation (WTPF), an international
non-governmental organisation, established in 2000, was initiated
by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD). The WTPF assists enterprises in over 90 countries
worldwide to trade internationally by using electronic commerce
technology through a network of more than 120 trade information
and facilitation centers, known as Trade Points.
Trade Point Colombo, hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce,
is the Local Gateway to the global Trade Point Network. The
network facilitates rapid and targeted communication among
Trade Points for the benefit of their customers and increases
the reliability of the information received.
Furthermore, certified Trade Point members are able to access
the global Trade Point Network to obtain Business Information
services, find Online-trading opportunities on the Electronic
Trading Opportunities (ETO) system, acquire Global visibility
for their company’s products through the Global Trade
Directory System (GTDS), receive Trade Alerts that match specific
business interests into their email inbox, and access the
database of the WTPF in an unlimited manner.
Moreover, website visitors are provided with the benefits
of free search facilities to find reliable companies that
meet procurement needs and service requirements, and are able
to browse through detailed company and product information
by country, sector or specific products. It also functions
as an e-mail tool for direct contact with companies of interest
and forms a platform for a trustworthy trading environment
with Certified Trade Point Members.
