blares and flares about fuel, CoL
The
main opposition UNPs toot in protest campaign
kicked off in Colombo and other places around the island at
noon yesterday, in the face of significant opposition from
police personnel deployed in the city.
The UNP called on motorists to toot their horns and switch
on their headlights at midday yesterday to protest at what
they called the governments unfair fuel price hike.
The protest, which saw UNP Leader Ranil Wickremsinghe and
SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem out on the streets in rainy conditions
encouraging drivers to blare and flare to signal

A
toot and a smile

|
| Although
it is difficult to gauge the real impact of the UNPs
flare and blare campaign held at noon yesterday,
the unusual protest brought a smile on the faces of motorists
burdened by skyrocketing fuel prices, if nothing else.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe braved the rainy weather
conditions to approach vehicle drivers and urge them to
toot their horns against the governments fuel increases
during the protest. Pic by Nissanka Wijerathne |
