ILO
workshop on community based training for economic empowerment
The International Labour Organisation will hold a national
workshop on Community-based Training for Economic Empowerment
on June 26th (tomorrow) from 9.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. .at *On
Golden Pond*, at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo 1.
The ILO CB-TREE Project is a joint undertaking of the International
Labour Organization (ILO) and the Government of Belgium to
help the Government of Sri Lanka specifically, in the restoration
of livelihoods and revival of local economies, in areas that
has been affected by the tsunami through skills training,
enterprise development and the installation of appropriate
economic support mechanisms at the community level. The Project
is being implemented in Ampara District since February 2006.
The workshop is aimed at discussing income-deficiency related
causes of poverty and how the newly adapted CB-TREE Methodology
can be utilized to address them effectively through the Government
Poverty reduction Programmes.
The ILO CB-TREE Project had adapted and tested a convergent
methodology for community-based training for self-employment,
employment and small enterprise development including the
organization of post-training support mechanisms at the village
levels. It is designed specifically for the use of agencies
and organsations involved in national poverty reduction programmes.
The methodology has been adapted to the national context of
Sri Lanka. For this reason, the ILO CB-TREE Project, u
pon the initiative of the Project Advisory Committee (PAC),
has readied its provisional Manual and has prepared its presentation
and discussion to various national stakeholders for their
assessment and utilization.
