Chopper in President’s convoy gets bullet-holed

An Air Force helicopter, which is reported to have been a part of the President’s convoy, was forced to land at Arugam Bay after discovering that its fuel tank was leaking due to a puncture made by a bullet-hole.

Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said the helicopter was a part of the logistical support to the Arugam Bay bridge opening and was not carrying the President as was initially thought.

“The helicopter had been flying from Ampara to Arugam Bay after being refuelled at Ampara when the pilot had noticed that the helicopter was rapidly losing fuel. Then after landing at Arugam Bay they have discovered the fuel tank was damaged by a bullet,” said Nanayakkara.
