Burnett a proud finalist at 2008 Cannes Lions International
Advertising Festival
Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. (LBSI), the local office of internationally
acclaimed advertising agency network Leo Burnett Worldwide,
was selected as a finalist at the Radio Lions competition
at the 2008 Cannes Lions Festival, marking a major milestone
for the renowned agency.
This is the first time that LBSI has been selected as a finalist
for its work at the prestigious Cannes Lions International
Advertising Festival. A tribute to LBSI for its immense talent
in creating creative yet powerful communication in the radio
medium, the short listed work is a radio spot entitled Newsreader
done for Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel. This much acclaimed campaign
was created by LBSIs Ramesh de Silva and spearheaded
by the award winning Creative Director, Trevor Kennedy.
Along with Ramesh de Silva and Trevor Kennedy, Ashan Wickramasinghe,
Mohamed Ikram, Gian Derose, Gayan Perera, Izky Faiz, Shalini
Senaratne, and Mehnaz Illhamdeen comprises the LBSI team which
took part in the creative execution of the campaign. With
the aim of promoting Mobitels JNW News alerts service,
the Newsreader creative radio spot became immensely
popular among the listeners, and was lauded by many for its
power of simple yet effective communication.
Commenting on this remarkable recognition, LBSIs Executive
Creative Director, Trevor Kenendy said, The reason why
this particular piece of work was selected as a finalist at
the Cannes Lions 2008 was because of its simplicity. Most
commercials try too hard to communicate its message across
to the masses that they lose themselves in it, and fail to
really connect with people. This particular radio spot had
a human touch to it. In the radio commercial, the simple mistake
of reading a text message was something people could relate
to.
This tremendous honour further reinforces LBSIs creative
leadership in Sri Lanka, the testimonials of which are showcased
in a number of local and regional awards the renowned agency
has won since LBSIs inception in the local advertising
industry 9 years ago. Some of the awards LBSI has won in the
recent times are The Chillies (2008), Adfest (2008) and Sumathi
Tele-Awards (2008). The recognition at the 2008 Cannes Lions
Festival further reiterates LBSIs creative dominance
in the local advertising industry as one of the most awarded
agencies of recent times.
