Trilingual websites for 100 government institutions from ICTA

The Information & Communication Technology Agency (100) says it has designed trilingual websites for 100 government institutions under its Re-engineering Government Programme.

“The project has been implemented to empower the state sector from the Information and Communication Technology”, said Project Manager Kanishka Karunasena.

“It has created the opportunity to provide correct and updated information quickly on the services of government institutions to the public, business community as well as foreigners”, he pointed out.

The Financial and Technological assistance to design websites for government institutions is provided by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lank (ICTA).

The benefit attained by the people especially in rural villages is that they can obtain the expected service from the relevant institution after being informed about it. Because information is included on Government institutions in the websites people can obtain services with preparation.

“Department of Pensions, Health Education Bureau, Water Supply Board, Department of National Archives, Department of Technical Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Commission for Bribery or Corruption, Department of Registration of Persons, Department of National Museum, Department of Management Services, Department Registrar General and nearly 100 institutions have been provided web facilities”, said Kanishka Karunasena.

The special feature of these websites is that anyone can browse them through Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. New Unicode facilities have been introduced to surf the site with ease. Sinhala language Unicode can be download through the website www.siyabas.lk while Tamil Unicode can be download by browsing the website www.cmathumozhihal.lk

“The number of persons who obtains web facilities is increasing day by day”, said Kanishka Karunasena. “However, it is the responsibility of the relevant government institution to update information in those websites and the technological knowledge for this purpose is provided by the ICTA,” he added.

Anyone can browse these websites through the Sri Lankan Government’s official web portal www.gov.lk
