Air Force kills 22 Black Tigers

Sri Lanka Air Force Intelligence confirmed yesterday that 22 Black Tiger cadres had been killed following an attack carried out by the Air Force in Mullaitivu area on Tuesday morning.

SLAF fighter jets launched an air strike on an LTTE leader’s training facility located in Udayarkattukulam, Mullaitivu yesterday around 8:30 a.m.

According to the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) the SLAF pilots had confirmed that the fighter jets successfully engaged the target. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy destroyed an LTTE boat and caused damages to another two off the seas of Nayaru yesterday at dawn.

According to the MCNS, the naval fast attack craft had observed and engaged a fleet of LTTE boats proceeding towards Pulmoddai from Nayaru area about two nautical miles from land around 1:30 a.m.

According to the MCNS website, the naval sources said that these craft had been heading towards Pulmoddai and were observed by the Navy, which chased and finally engaged these craft.

Naval reports had confirmed that one boat was completely destroyed while two more were severely damaged. The LTTE had fled with the damaged boats back to Nayaru. Naval craft had continued to attack the fleeing boats, they confirmed.Nearly 10 LTTE cadres were allegedly killed during this confrontation, naval reports said.

No damages were reported to the naval troops during the incident.
