Swadeshi Khomba illuminates Sabaragamuwa Maha
Saman Devalaya for 7th year
The Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC, the market leader in Sri
Lanka for herbal personal care products, sponsored the Aloka
Poojas of the historic Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya
for the 7th consecutive year. The five-day event concluded
on July 18.
A spokesperson for Swadeshi said the support that the company
extends for the four Aloka Poojas of the most significant
historical places of worship on the island, is greatly appreciated
and looked forward to by the large number of devotees from
different parts of the country who visit these sacred sites
annually. Being a 100 per cent local company, Swadeshi
is committed to sustain and safeguard the religious traditions
of the country which are fast dying. It is important that
we protect our cultural heritage for the younger generation
to learn and appreciate what a rich culture we have in Sri
Lanka, she said.
The Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya situated in the Ratnapura
district, was built in the 13th century in the reign of King
Parakramabahu II. The existing structure was built in the
reign of King Rajasinghe II in the 17th century. It was the
repository for the Sacred Tooth Relic from 1581 to 1592.
Every year, Swadeshi also sponsors the Aloka Pooja of the
Kataragama Kiri Vehera, the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya,
the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and the Dambadeniya Raja Maha
Viharaya.
