Swadeshi Khomba illuminates Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya for 7th year

The Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC, the market leader in Sri Lanka for herbal personal care products, sponsored the ‘Aloka Poojas’ of the historic Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya for the 7th consecutive year. The five-day event concluded on July 18.

A spokesperson for Swadeshi said the support that the company extends for the four Aloka Poojas of the most significant historical places of worship on the island, is greatly appreciated and looked forward to by the large number of devotees from different parts of the country who visit these sacred sites annually. “Being a 100 per cent local company, Swadeshi is committed to sustain and safeguard the religious traditions of the country which are fast dying. It is important that we protect our cultural heritage for the younger generation to learn and appreciate what a rich culture we have in Sri Lanka,” she said.

The Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya situated in the Ratnapura district, was built in the 13th century in the reign of King Parakramabahu II. The existing structure was built in the reign of King Rajasinghe II in the 17th century. It was the repository for the Sacred Tooth Relic from 1581 to 1592.

Every year, Swadeshi also sponsors the Aloka Pooja of the Kataragama Kiri Vehera, the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya, the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and the Dambadeniya Raja Maha Viharaya.
