Spurious sacrifice for SAARC?
Colombo, SRI LANKA : A stray dog at Vihara Maha Devi park escapes the net of a municipal worker while a family picnics during a major operation to rid the city of stray animals ahead of a major summit of South Asian leaders in Colombo. The Colombo Municipal Council said it would hold the dogs at a pound until the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) two-day summit ends on August 3, 2008. The move has come under stiff criticism from animal lovers who say that CMC was trying to project a false image of the city to foreign delegates. AFP
