A/L
exams start today
The Advanced Level exam begins today amid fresh assurances
by teacher associations that paper marking would proceed without
hindrance.
Despite earlier fears that trade union action might hamper
paper marking, the All Island United Teachers Association
(AIUTA) has reiterated their support in ensuring that the
papers are corrected on time. AIUTA Chairman Venerable Yalwela
Pagngnasekera noted that teachers would report to the examination
centers as they normally do.
Due to the up coming Provincial Council Elections on August
23, the exams will be held in two stages. The first phase
will be from today to August 21, while the second stage will
continue from August 25, to September 3.
This year 1, 97,062 students will be sitting for the exams
while another 94, 757 have applied as private candidates.
