Lanka’s problem lies with their batting

Third and final Test starts on Friday

If Sri Lanka are looking to strengthen their firepower to equal that of India they are staring down the wrong end of the barrel for reflecting back on the two Tests played at the SSC and at Galle it has not been their bowling that has been a cause for concern but their batting.

Sri Lankan bowlers led by the two spinners Muthiah Muralitharan and new spin sensation Ajantha Mendis and, supported by the two seamers Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Kulasekera have bowled out the strong Indian batting line up on four occasions in the two Tests capturing 39 of the 40 wickets (one was a run out).

Their performance goes to show that the problem lies not only in the bowling line up but in the batting where at the SSC when the batters clicked and scored four hundreds Sri Lanka easily won by an innings. However at Galle the same batting line up failed to deliver which eventually led to their defeat by 170 runs.
