Sri
Lankas winning captain Mahela Jayawardene gave
credit to the whole team for winning the three-Test
series against India. Sri Lanka won the third and final
Test by eight wickets at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium
on Monday to take the series 2-1 and Jayawardene described
it as a very hard fought series that drained a
lot out of us.
We showed a lot of character especially to come
back after the Galle Test. I am very happy with the
players because they played really good cricket even
though we lost at Galle. We kept the standards high,
kept pushing ourselves and we fought well. We never
gave up. Credit should go to the whole team, said
Jayawardene
I thought the difference was that we had a lot
of contributions from different players throughout the
series. Whenever we were in a situation that needed
for somebody to put their hand up for us they did it.
Thats probably the most pleasing thing for me,
he said.
When
questioned how his team were able to contain such a
strong batting line, Jayawardene said: The credit
should go to the bowling unit for keeping India under
a total of 329 in the whole series. We were up against
a really good challenge but I said numbers can be there
but still you have to perform. Our guys went really
hard at them and kept the pressure going. Credit to
the bowlers, all of them chipped in and kept pressure
on the Indian batting line-up. Thats how we managed
to put a lot of pressure on the Indians.
