Challenge ’08 sponsored by Tough American 4x4’s
“Jeep” from Dimo’s
The annual “4x4 Challenge” will be held for the
5th consecutive year from 10th – 14th of October 2008
organized by the Four Wheel Drive Club – Sri Lanka (FWDC).
This year while FWDC celebrates the 5th Anniversary of the
“4x4 Challenge”, organisers are glad to announce
in receiving the first ever international entry for an event
of this nature, from Australia.
The 2008 event is designed with the objective of going back
to grass root style of 4x4 adventure. This year, the
organisers will accept only a maximum of 20 entries, allowing
four days of 4x4 adventure in the Jungles with fellow competitors
with absolutely no external back up assistance, relying on
each other to pull them through. The camping starts on the
day the competitors convoy in to the Jungles of Dambulla on
the 10th of October. The competitors will be convoyed to the
campsite that will be their home for the first two nights
of the event. On Saturday the 11th, the prolog will begin
at the vicinity of the camp site.
To accommodate more Special Stages (SS’s) this year,
the event may run well into the night hours. One could
determine the seriousness of the 4x4 Challenge ’08 as
they tackle only approx 35 kms over the four days. This
is most likely to be the toughest short distance “trail”
that the competitors would have probably ever encountered.
The event is planned to be completed by noon on the 14th of
October ’08 at a private estate in Dambulla, where competitors
have lunch with the Marshals followed by the awards ceremony.
Event Director, Sean Hameed states that “This year’s
trails are not just going to be muddy, on the contrary it
will be more technical challenge to get through. Hence reliability
of their heavily modified 4WD’s with the application
and demonstration of competitor’s skills will certainly
be the key to success”.

in Sri Lanka. It’s worth noting here that Dimo’s
have been sponsoring all the 4x4 events organised by the FWDC
ever since the “Jeep” brand was launched in Sri
Lanka, thus offering the opportunity to their customers as
well as all the 4x4 enthusiasts to enjoy the great out doors.
