on alert after disaster averted
Bus
conductor, diver act valiantly
Colombo
was on high security alert yesterday after a massive bomb
inside a bus exploded just minutes after a vigilant conductor
and driver evacuated some 60 passengers on board including
many school children, averting certain disaster.
The
explosion which occurred near the Horton Place roundabout,
caused vibrations in buildings as far off as Punchi Borella
and completely destroyed the rear of the bus. Police believe
the explosive to have been a powerful time bomb.
A driver of a motor car sustained minor injuries and three
others suffered concussions in the explosion inside the bus
which was eventually parked in Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha,
near the John de Silva Theatre.
